The Earl of Brass (The Ingenious Mechanical Devices #1)

The Earl of Brass (The Ingenious Mechanical Devices #1)The Earl of Brass by Kara Jorgensen

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

To be honest I didn’t read any of the stories based on the steampunk culture earlier and this one book has increased my hunger to explore and read more stories of this genre. The title of the book caught my attention while I was surfing through new books in my Kindle and I am glad that this book did not disappoint me.
The plot of inserting metallic prosthetic arm in the the human body with titanium rods in Victorian era was something I did not imagine while I read the parts where the male protagonist Ellian lost his right arm in the aircrash. The loss however, led him to the female protagonist Hadley who bought a new breath in his life through her invention of metallic prosthetic. Their wild adventure to Negev Desert and discovery of much broad-minded yet technologically advanced native people was another surprise in the story. What I liked about the book is the way the author wove the story by taking in both the strengths and flaws of the characters. The questions raised against a woman’s credibility and their success in the male-dominated and conservative society was another element the author presented in her story through the characters of Hadley and her cousin Dr. Eliza.
Overall I loved the story and would recommend to the readers who want to read a good story on adventure, science fiction flavored with history and romance.
