Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody #1)

Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody #1)Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of the best historical-mystery book I have read so far. I was surprised I did not come across the books written by Elizabeth Peters before as I am a big fan of historical thrillers and dramas. Among the characters in the book, my obvious favourite is the main protagonist Amelia Peabody, a middle-aged spinster of Victorian England oozing with practicality, confidence, independence and subtle amount of naughtiness. The character of Emerson with his gruff and rude attitude was a good challenge for Peabody as their conversations and actions never lead to an agreeable ending. The cultural difference, the suspense with the historical background made this book one of my favourites in this genre. You will not want to stop until you finished reading the last page.
